Brand new, wickedly efficient Pre-task planning / JHA automation.
Recently BIG-D Construction, long time Nyfty and Procore users and one of our fave customers, came to us with a problem. They offered to collaborate with us to see if we could come up with a fix. And fix it we did - introducing the completely new pre-task planning workflow in JHA Bot PLUS added support for Procore Forms.
A problem shared is a problem halved - old adage new fix
For 20 years, BIG-D have been using a pre-task planning process called 'THINK'. THINK has evolved over the years. It started on paper then a fillable PDF option, using Procore Forms, was added. Then, when BIG-D adopted Nyfty, they started using Inspections Bot to automate the collection process and save the form in an Inspection template in Procore.
This worked great in terms of completing the process, but in the transition something was lost, as Todd Manly, National Director HSE, puts it "It had lost its essence and purpose." Todd identified a few key problems:
Teams are familiar with the look and feel of the paper/pdf form they developed over 20 years. This includes helpful instructions and guidance, formatted in a user friendly way.
With the Nyfty process, once the THINK Form was submitted, it was only accessible in Procore, whereas BIG-D want the document to live in the field so every worker has access to their safety plans for the day, even if they're not in the Procore Directory.
During COVID, with a move away from participants signing forms, it felt like workers lost some of the 'buy in' to the process.
Finally, changes needed to support some of BIG-D's speciality trade partners uploading their own Pre-task Plans whilst still ensuring they were shared amongst the crew.
So Todd and Riley sat down with Nyfty's Matt and David and asked if we could re-jig our Bots a bit. Could we support Procore PDFs to get the look and feel "right"? Could we share the completed form with every participant by sending them a copy by SMS? Could we support capturing signatures? Could we also make sure the Foreman can update can update the PTP-JHA throughout the day or even create new ones?
Because we love our customers, love a challenge and love pushing our Bots to achieve that little bit more, we gave an enthusiastic "sure can". And while we're at it, we'll use Nyfty's unique capabilities to make sure every worker on the job site is covered by a THINK form. AnJHA-PTP BotBototts -PTPexactly what we did.
Pushing safety even further, making life easier for the GC - JHA-PTP Bot
So, the general idea is to make the Job Hazard Assessment / Pre-Task Plan process as simple and automated as possible whilst allowing you to use your existing Forms or Inspections Templates in Procore.
We simplified the process in 3 major ways:
Changes to the Workflow
Nyfty still sends a link to Foremen, either when they have checked in via Attendance Bot or according to your set schedule. But now, after clicking this link, Foremen can access their recent JHA-PTPs and use them as the base for today's tasks, minimising repetition. They can even create multiple JHA-PTPs each day.
When the process starts, Foremen can select the participants from a list Nyfty has derived from either Attendance Bot or previous JHA-PTPs. They then start completing your Form or they can upload their own JHA-PTP to complete (if you choose to allow that). When it's done, Nyfty sends a copy of the JHA-PTP to each participant via SMS, so they have easy access throughout the day, as well as saving it to Procore.
Procore Forms, including signatures
We've added support for Procore Forms (we already support Procore Inspections). This means you can continue to use your existing JHA-PTP Forms and now capture signatures from participants without anybody needing to use and app. You can even give Foreman the option to select multiple templates, such as an English or Spanish version, or if you have templates designed for specific tasks.

**Coming Soon** We're really excited to share that we'll be adding a new feature that takes safety to a completely new level. Not only will Nyfty ensure each Foreman completes a JHA-PTP but, when it's linked to Attendance Bot, Nyfty will make sure every worker on the job site is covered by a JHA-PTP
This feature will monitor Attendance Bot and reach out to the Foreman asking them to create a new, or update an existing, JHA-PTP to include any excluded workers. It will also notify Safety Managers of any workers not covered by a JHA-PTP as well as providing them a live screen that allows them to view the status of every worker.
How did it turn out?
